VMDK is a VMware virtual-disk format with several storage layouts. Fileso reads supported sparse image variants and uses its disk-image reader to inspect recognizable partitions and file systems. A descriptor file by itself may only point to external extents.
Extract .vmdk in Fileso
- Copy the complete image to a local location Fileso can access and check that enough storage remains for the extracted files.
- Tap it and choose View to browse a temporary extraction. A large image may take time to prepare.
- Choose Extract to Folder when you need a lasting copy in a separate destination, then wait for the task to finish.
- Open a few resulting files and preserve the original image if you may need its full disk structure later.
Ensure you have the actual disk data, not just a small text descriptor. Put related files together before opening, then browse the visible volume and extract to a separate destination. Retain the original disk if the virtual machine may be used again.
If extraction fails
The current reader does not resolve every descriptor or parent-disk chain. If Fileso cannot open the image, ask for a self-contained export such as a supported standalone disk image; changing .vmdk to .img cannot merge missing extents.
Common question
Will opening VMDK modify the virtual machine? Fileso reads files for extraction; this workflow does not boot the guest or write changes into its disk image.
