A photo is useful site evidence, but a line drawn on a photo is only a pixel length until it has a real-world reference. MarkX helps you keep measurements and annotations together on iPhone or iPad for renovation, cabinetry, property inspection, and design handoffs.
A practical site workflow
- Photograph the area and keep a separately measured reference dimension, such as the width of a doorway.
- Open the photo in MarkX. Use Calibrate Scale with a known length before relying on dimensions inferred from image geometry. The app also supports other measurement methods where suitable capture data is available.
- Add length or angle annotations, arrows, shapes, and text labels. Use layers to separate existing conditions from proposed changes, and lock a layer before editing others.
- Review every value and export or share the marked-up image with the project team.
For a measured distance, you can enter a value manually or use a supported Bluetooth laser meter workflow. That is different from claiming the camera knows the exact dimensions of everything it sees.
Keep measurements trustworthy
Perspective, lens distortion, and objects on different planes can make a simple reference-scale estimate wrong. Calibrate against a known dimension on the same plane as the feature you measure, or use an appropriate perspective or depth method when available. Recheck critical installation dimensions with a physical measuring tool before cutting materials or ordering components. Label uncertain values as estimates in the annotation.
Folders and thumbnails help group photos by room or project. A clear image with reference dimensions, notes, and separated layers is easier to hand to a contractor than a loose collection of photos and messages. MarkX is an annotation and measurement aid, not a substitute for a professional site survey.
