Brotli is a compression stream often used for web assets such as CSS, JavaScript and HTML. Unlike formats with a distinctive container signature, the library identifies Brotli through the .br extension and validates the compressed data while decoding it.
Extract .br in Fileso
- Save the compressed file in Fileso with its full filename and extension.
- Tap it and choose Extract. Use Extract to Folder if you need a different destination; View prepares a temporary extracted copy for inspection.
- Wait for decoding to finish. A simple compressed stream may produce one file, while an inner TAR or CPIO produces multiple entries.
- Open a resulting file and check its size and type before discarding the compressed source.
Save the file with its .br extension intact. After extraction, inspect the output with Fileso’s text or hex viewer as appropriate; a Brotli-compressed web asset is not necessarily a website you can run locally.
If extraction fails
If the file will not decode, check whether the download was actually a Brotli file rather than an HTTP response incorrectly saved with .br. Ask for the original asset or a fresh download. A text file renamed to .br is not compressed Brotli data.
Common question
Does BR contain folders? A normal Brotli stream produces one byte stream. To store several files, an archive must be wrapped inside it.
