SquashFS is a compressed, read-only Linux file system often embedded in firmware or live systems. .squashfs and .sqsh are common filename choices for the same family. Fileso reads supported SquashFS versions and compressors to show files and directories.
Extract .squashfs, .sqsh in Fileso
- Copy the complete image to a local location Fileso can access and check that enough storage remains for the extracted files.
- Tap it and choose View to browse a temporary extraction. A large image may take time to prepare.
- Choose Extract to Folder when you need a lasting copy in a separate destination, then wait for the task to finish.
- Open a few resulting files and preserve the original image if you may need its full disk structure later.
Inspect the root folders first so you understand whether the image contains firmware, an application or a full operating-system tree. Extract into its own folder to preserve relative paths, and keep the image unchanged if you need to compare files later.
If extraction fails
Unsupported compressor options, damaged metadata or a vendor-specific wrapper can prevent reading. A firmware download may also place SquashFS inside another outer package; extract that wrapper first. Do not flash or run firmware based only on an extracted listing.
Common question
Is SQSH a different format from SquashFS? Usually it is another extension for a SquashFS image. The actual file-system signature and options determine compatibility.
