How to Extract Files from a WIM Image on iPhone

Inspect a supported Windows .wim image in Fileso and extract its contained files on iPhone.

Windows Imaging Format stores one or more image trees for deployment and recovery. Fileso’s reader supports uncompressed, XPRESS and LZX resources in its implemented WIM layout. The .wim extension does not make every Windows image variant readable.

Extract .wim in Fileso

  1. Copy the complete image to a local location Fileso can access and check that enough storage remains for the extracted files.
  2. Tap it and choose View to browse a temporary extraction. A large image may take time to prepare.
  3. Choose Extract to Folder when you need a lasting copy in a separate destination, then wait for the task to finish.
  4. Open a few resulting files and preserve the original image if you may need its full disk structure later.

Use View to inspect names before starting a potentially large extraction. Extract to a dedicated folder and confirm enough available storage; a deployment image can be far larger after extraction than its download.

If extraction fails

LZMS and solid resources are outside the current WIM decoder, and split .swm sets are not covered by this article. If your image uses those features, obtain a compatible export. Fileso cannot apply the image as a Windows installation.

Common question

Can Fileso restore Windows from a WIM? No. It reads supported contents for inspection and extraction; applying an operating-system image requires Windows deployment tools.
