How to Inspect the Contents of an IPA File on iPhone

Open a supported .ipa archive in Fileso and inspect packaged iOS app resources without installing the app.

An IPA is a ZIP-family package commonly containing a Payload directory and an .app bundle. Fileso’s ZIP reader can extract supported entries and let you inspect resources such as images or configuration files. Extraction does not grant permission to install or run the app.

Extract .ipa in Fileso

  1. Save the complete package in Fileso, then tap it and choose View to inspect a temporary extraction.
  2. Find the assets or metadata you need. Preserve their relative paths when the package has a structured directory tree.
  3. Choose Extract for a lasting copy beside the package, or Extract to Folder to place it elsewhere.
  4. Verify the files you need. Extraction makes the contents available for inspection; it does not run or install the packaged software.

Keep the IPA intact while exploring its contents. Use View to find the Payload directory, then extract to a separate folder if you need files for review or transfer. Executable binaries and compiled assets will not necessarily be readable as text.

If extraction fails

If the IPA does not open, check whether it is complete and whether its ZIP entries use a supported method. A damaged package may list some files but fail on later entries. Use a trusted original download rather than modifying the archive in place.

Common question

Can I install an IPA just by extracting it? No. Installation depends on iOS signing and distribution rules; Fileso’s archive feature only exposes files.
