How to Inspect XAR and XIP Archive Contents on iPhone

Extract supported .xar and .xip archive contents in Fileso without running a macOS installer.

XAR stores a file table of contents and individual payloads; Apple .xip files share the XAR container structure. Fileso reads supported XAR payload encodings so you can inspect files inside. This is a file-extraction workflow, not a signature-verification or macOS installation tool.

Extract .xar, .xip in Fileso

  1. Save the complete package in Fileso, then tap it and choose View to inspect a temporary extraction.
  2. Find the assets or metadata you need. Preserve their relative paths when the package has a structured directory tree.
  3. Choose Extract for a lasting copy beside the package, or Extract to Folder to place it elsewhere.
  4. Verify the files you need. Extraction makes the contents available for inspection; it does not run or install the packaged software.

Open the archive in View to find the package or resource paths you need, then extract into a dedicated folder. Preserve the original signed download if you need to verify its provenance with a platform that supports that check.

If extraction fails

An XIP may use a payload feature, encryption or signature expectation outside the extractor’s scope. Do not assume extracted contents are trusted merely because the files appeared. If Fileso cannot parse it, request a conventional ZIP or TAR export from the publisher.

Common question

Does extracting an XIP verify Apple’s signature? No. Fileso exposes supported archive contents; use an appropriate macOS tool for signature and installation checks.
