How to Open DMG Files on iPhone

Inspect and extract files from supported macOS .dmg disk images in Fileso on iPhone.

A DMG is a macOS disk image. Fileso recognizes supported UDIF containers and can traverse supported volumes inside them, including HFS-family layouts. Some images expose an unfamiliar partition as a raw .img instead of individual files.

Extract .dmg in Fileso

  1. Copy the complete image to a local location Fileso can access and check that enough storage remains for the extracted files.
  2. Tap it and choose View to browse a temporary extraction. A large image may take time to prepare.
  3. Choose Extract to Folder when you need a lasting copy in a separate destination, then wait for the task to finish.
  4. Open a few resulting files and preserve the original image if you may need its full disk structure later.

Open the DMG with View and look for the volume or application bundle you need. Extract to a folder if you want a copy for transfer or inspection. Keep the original image when installer provenance or later macOS use matters.

If extraction fails

Not every DMG can be browsed fully: encrypted images, unsupported compression or an APFS volume can prevent direct file extraction. A raw image fallback is not the same as successfully reading the contained file system. Use macOS when you need to mount or run a macOS application.

Common question

Can a DMG install a Mac app on iPhone? No. Fileso can extract supported files, but it does not mount the image as macOS or run its applications.
