LZMA-alone is a compressed stream with a different container from 7z, even though 7z can also use LZMA compression internally. A .lzma file may yield one output; .tlz often means a TAR archive compressed with LZMA. Fileso unwraps the stream and opens a valid inner TAR.
Extract .lzma, .tlz in Fileso
- Save the compressed file in Fileso with its full filename and extension.
- Tap it and choose Extract. Use Extract to Folder if you need a different destination; View prepares a temporary extracted copy for inspection.
- Wait for decoding to finish. A simple compressed stream may produce one file, while an inner TAR or CPIO produces multiple entries.
- Open a resulting file and check its size and type before discarding the compressed source.
Inspect the resulting file names before moving them into an existing folder. If you expect several members, confirm the input was a TAR-based package rather than a single file compressed with LZMA.
If extraction fails
LZMA headers contain dictionary settings and size information. A damaged header or an unsupported memory requirement can prevent decoding. Try a complete copy of the original; changing .lzma to .7z cannot turn it into a 7z container.
Common question
Is TLZ a separate compression algorithm? No. It is commonly a shorthand name for a TAR archive wrapped in LZMA compression.
