How to Open a Self-Extracting EXE Archive on iPhone

Inspect an .exe file that embeds a supported ZIP, 7z, RAR or CAB archive, without running Windows software.

Some Windows .exe files are self-extracting archives: a program stub is followed by a ZIP, 7z, RAR or CAB payload. Fileso scans for those embedded containers and can extract a valid one. A normal application executable or an unsupported installer layout has no extractable payload for this feature.

Extract .exe in Fileso

  1. Save the original .exe in Fileso; there is no need to rename or run it.
  2. Tap it and choose View. Fileso can show a temporary extraction only when it finds a supported archive behind the executable stub.
  3. If the payload is recognized, choose Extract to Folder to keep its files in a separate destination.
  4. Inspect the output as data. Do not assume that an executable or script inside is safe to run elsewhere.

Save the EXE in Fileso and try View first. If Fileso finds an archive, inspect its listed resources and use Extract to Folder for a lasting copy. Treat executable files and scripts from unknown sources as untrusted even if you only inspect them.

If extraction fails

If Fileso says the format is unsupported, do not rename the EXE to ZIP. The program may use a different installer format, such as NSIS, or contain no archive. Ask the publisher for a plain ZIP or CAB export when you need the data files.

Common question

Can Fileso run the EXE? No. This workflow extracts recognized embedded archive data; it does not execute Windows programs.
