Extract Every GIF Frame as PNG on iPhone with Fileso

Split an animated GIF into numbered PNG files in a new folder using Fileso, then inspect or share individual frames.

1 min read

Fileso can extract the frames of an animated GIF into separate PNG images on iPhone or iPad. The app creates a new folder beside the GIF, with numbered files such as frame_0.png and frame_1.png. Your original GIF stays available.

Split the GIF

  1. Open Fileso and locate the .gif file.
  2. Open its More actions and choose Split GIF to Frame.
  3. Wait for the new folder named after the GIF with a _frame suffix.
  4. Open that folder to inspect or share the individual PNG files.

This is useful when you need a still image from an animation, want to compare frames, or need the frames for another editing workflow.

What does the export contain?

Each PNG contains a rendered frame image. Frame delays and looping instructions belong to the original GIF animation and are not represented by an individual PNG. Keep the GIF if you need to reconstruct the same playback timing later.
