View a File's First 30 KB as Hex on iPhone with Fileso

Open Fileso's Raw Hex Data view to inspect the first 30 KB of a file as byte values and readable text on iPhone.

1 min read

Fileso’s Raw Hex Data view lets you inspect a file’s bytes on iPhone or iPad. It reads the first 30 KB, so it is useful for checking a file header, signature or beginning of a text file. It is not a full-file hex editor.

Open the hex view

  1. Find the file in Fileso. Its extension does not need to be a text format.
  2. Open the file’s More actions and choose Raw Hex Data.
  3. Read the byte values and text representation in the hex dump.
  4. Compare the opening bytes with the format you expect. For example, a ZIP archive begins with a recognizable PK signature.

The view helps diagnose a misleading extension or a file that an ordinary preview cannot open. It does not change the file. If the data you need lies beyond the first 30 KB, use a tool that can read the whole file.

What can a hex dump tell you?

Byte values can identify a file format or show whether a file starts with a byte-order mark. They cannot by themselves establish that a file is safe or that its contents are complete. Keep a copy of the original when diagnosing a damaged file.
